Ranugad

Ranugad
 / Ran
   The original form of 'Hamfast'.
In his translation of the Red Book of Westmarch, Tolkien anglicised many Hobbit names. 'Ranugad' is an example of this process - it is the real name of the Hobbit named Hamfast Gamgee in the Lord of the Rings. Ranugad (often abbreviated to 'Ran') had a very similar meaning to the translated name, Hamfast.
